TAX DAY RALLY IN BILLINGS
Updated
On: Apr 21, 2012 (08:27:00)
On April 17th, the Service Employees International Union 775NW, the Montana State AFL-CIO, and the Montana Organizing Project held a Tax Day Rally! The rally celebrated all the amazing things our taxes support like; quality public education, neighborhood parks, roads and bridges, services for our seniors and people with disabilities, public safety, and much more…
Faith leaders, community members, and workers rallied at Fire Station #5 in Billings, Montana in support of the tax-funded programs and services that make our Montana communities healthy, safe, and strong. Tax supporters offered several of their own solutions to our nation’s budget woes including;
- Passage of the Buffett Rule that would make millionaires and the corporate one percent pay their fair share, and
- Removal of Rehberg from Congress for failing to; support fair tax policy, protect our public investments from attackers,and listen to the voices of Montana citizens when making decisions that effect us.

Save Our Postal Service/Jobs - Oppose SB 1789!
Updated
On: Apr 18, 2012 (06:07:00)
TAKE ACTION: Call your U.S. representative and senators at 202-224-3121 (Capitol Switchboard). Tell them to fix the USPS without destroying service or eliminating 100,000 jobs!
POSTAL CLOSURES BY MAY 15TH:
If Congress doesn’t do something to fix the USPS’s finances by May 15, the Postal Service plans to close 3,600 post offices, consolidate 223 mail processing centers, layoff 100,000 workers, eliminate overnight delivery of first-class mail and periodicals, change two-day delivery to three days, and end six-day service. These closures, consolidations, layoffs and service changes will create massive disruptions for consumers, small businesses, our communities and our economy.
THE CRUX OF THE PROBLEM:
The Postal Service is facing a financial “crisis,” but not for the reasons you might think. In December 2006, Congress passed a law that requires the USPS to pre-fund 75-years’ worth of future retiree health benefi ts over a 10-year period. No other government agency or private business is required to bear such a burden, which drains $5.5 BILLION annually from USPS revenues.
